Will the ability to restore to GCP using the helper be fixed in V12

Post by srlarsen »

Case #07850315
I posted the case for reference, but the testing automation we have is not really functional without the helpers. Is this going to be fixed/patched in the latest version of 12? My VBR server is CPU bound with a small number of restores running (5 -10). When I was able to use the helper appliance, I could have like over one hundred restores running at once. This was working, and at some point in the 12 upgrades it broke and I'm told it will work again in future releases(V13). The problem is, I don't really want to go to 13 quite yet after reading posts from some seasoned Veeam admins out there. It sounds like waiting for a .1 or .2 release might be the wiser course of action.

Hello Stephen,

Once v13 became generally available, v12 switched to the end-of-fix stage, meaning that no new features will be developed for this version of the platform.

Thank you!

In my process, I maintenance mode the capacity tier repository on my V12 VBR on premise server, I then attach that repository to a VBR server in an isolated GCP project and perform test restores, then I detach and remove it from the isolated VBR server and take it out of maintenance mode on my on premise VBR server and rescan it. Then backups resume normally.

My question is, in this process, can I upgrade only my isolated project VBR server to 13 and leave my production environment as V12? Would the upgrade of the isolated VBR server modify/upgrade the repository in a way not allow it to function with the V12 VBR server in this test process?

Thanks

Yes, it will. Once you attach it to the backup server with a newer version, it will upgrade all required components to work with that repository.
