[V13 on Windows] updates require admin permissions
moderator split from post561734.html#p561734
this is quite annoying for us.
first of all if I assume "download console" link from VBR web ui give me a console that acutally works with that VBR.
the, we use virtual desktop infrastructure (based on appvolumes and not persisten) and we are not local administrators. I MUST give VDI admins the right installer of Windows console, not only one installer that installs a console that needs an upgrade you need to be local administrator to install.
Even a minor update required a console update. Consider we have many VBR servers and we cannot upgrade all of them at the same time. I would have hoped in vain this behaviour would be fixed in 13er.

Hello,
as the statement has nothing to do with the bug of the other thread, I split the topic.
What you describe is something that will be solved by bringing all features to the web UI. The Windows Console itself won't get another re-write. The web UI is the future.
Best regards
Hannes

ok, good for split topic.
Maybe my English is not so good, but what I have observed is that from https://vbr you clic on "download windows console" and after installing it you must upgrade.
I think you expect that console you download directly from VBR server works immediatly.

Same issue for me.
Latest VBR version installed (1207), WEB UI, download console.
Console installed and, at the first time to connect to the VBR server, upgrade required...

Re: [V13 on Windows] updates require admin permissions
just another question: how can I get update installer launched from console, in ordert to give it to VDI admins so they can install in our VDIs? I'm actually meaning upgrade from 13.0.1.180 to 13.0.1.2067.

Re: [V13 on Windows] updates require admin permissions
I would just give them the Windows Installer ISO (for new console installation or Upgrade from V12) or the latest Windows Patch-Exe/ISO (if already on 13.0.1), it includes the correct corresponding console setup. When you start the installation with the complete ISO you can select to only install the console, or you get the option to update an existing console. The patch exe/ISO will just update without further options. That works and no further update is needed when the console connects to the VBR Server, this was the way I did it in our environment.
