Unable to run backup job - License exceeded

Post by Pagano »

So I have a few tape backup jobs that run every day. Due to some problems with the firewall, Veeam B&R didn't start at all for a few weeks. After fixing the problem, I tried to start one of the backup jobs manually but now I'm getting the "Unable to process the workload: your license has been exceeded" error. I tried both full and incremental backups, neither worked.

Now I'm wondering... why has the license been exceeded if none of the jobs actually ran? I've been able to run a full backup with the same license before, so I'm not sure why this would'n work anymore.

Hi Pagano,

A license is consumed by a workload for at least 31 days after its last backup session. It is then automatically revoked and can be used for new workloads.

You can view license consumption in the backup console and the Web UI.

If you believe the license message is incorrect, please contact our Customer Support team for proper investigation.

This is what I've found in the License Information window:

License tab:
Points 11 (11 used + 0 new)

Points tab:
Type Count Multiplier Points
Servers 1 11 11
File Shares (500GB) 0 0 0

Files are backed up directly from the server to tape and a NAS.
Sorry but I'm not too familiar with the veeam licensing system, so what kind of license upgrade would I need to prevent the current situation in the future?

Since you have "points," you must have a rental license installed.
Rental licenses are intended for service providers to offer managed backup services to their customers. Backup servers licensed with a rental license should be managed by the service provider.

I recommend reaching out to your service provider to discuss what you want to do. Since you plan to run File to Tape jobs, the service provider will need to install a new rental license with more points (500 GB of source data = 10 points).
The rental point consumption for each workload is documented in our Help Center.

Running File to Tape jobs may also require proper sizing of your backup environment, especially disk space for the configuration database if you plan to protect a huge number of files and folders.
