Linux Postgrss DB - Backup

Hi,

I have recently deployeda few Rocky Linux 10 PostgreSQL VMW VMs. What is the best way to back them up using Veeam? Would using the Veeam agent be recommended?

Do I need to stop any services during backups?

For context, I have many MS SQL servers backed up with Veeam using application-aware processing without any issues.

Please advise.

Hi TDG,

You can take application-aware image-level backups of Linux VMs running PostgreSQL. You can also back up the Write-Ahead Log files with a VM backup job.
I recommend using VM backup jobs. Stopping services is not required.

However, let me double-check one detail with our QA team, because our Help Center mentions that Rocky Linux 10 is not supported.

Hi Fabian, thanks for the advice. To confirm, I need to install the Veeam Agent for Linux, manage the backups through the Veeam console, and ensure the Linux servers have access to the Veeam server. Is that correct?

Rocky Linux is essentially a free, community-developed equivalent to Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL). It is designed to be a 100% binary-compatible "bug-for-bug" rebuild of RHEL, meaning software written for Red Hat will run identically on Rocky.

Veeam Agent for Linux will not be required if you decide to use VM backup jobs to protect this Linux VMs.

Still our Help Center lists RHEL 10 as supported, while Rocky 10 is not listed (Guest Processing support).
