Finding a backup of a renamed VM

Hi all

So we keep backups of Nutanix VMs for around a month, and the VMs themselves are largely out of our control (we are a service provider). Our customer sometimes renames their VMs and then creates new ones using the same name as the original. For example SERVER1 might be renamed to SERVER1-OLD and a new SERVER1 created. Since we use the Prism central category method of selecting VMs for backup jobs, I'm not worried about the VMs getting backed up.

However when it comes to restoring a VM from a few weeks back, using just a name, it is difficult to know we are selecting the right VM to restore if it had been renamed recently, and another VM exists with the original name.

Our customer has asked if there is a way to see perhaps an internal ID of the VM (in both Nutanix and Veeam restore explorer) so we could make sure the right backup is being used. Or any other way to avoid confusion here, when we're only going by the name of a VM.

The platform has over 1400 VMs and multiple admins, so it would be difficult to keep track manually of VM renames with their dates etc.

That's a very interesting question. I've struggled with this too, because Powershell can't display Nutanix backups.

We wanted to test it using the REST API, but unfortunately haven't gotten around to it yet.
