Hello,
I read https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbr/u ... tml?ver=13
and saw "Assigning the automated cleaning to Veeam Backup & Replication prevents possible overlapping of cleaning tasks and tape jobs. Such overlapping may cause tape jobs failures."
What would be you recommendation about it ?
Enable it on Veeam side or on library side ?
I understand this should be enabled only on one side.

Re: Cleaning tape VBR or Library
Hi Matteu,
It should only be activated on one side.
I always recommend activating it on the library side. The library knows when it needs to be cleaned; it has sensors and counters for that purpose that Veeam isn't even aware of.
We've always had good results with this approach so far.

Re: Cleaning tape VBR or Library
Dealer's choice.
Biggest catch is that if you have Veeam (or any backup application) manage the cleaning, ensure that the tape is in a normal data slot, do not reserve / use a dedicated cleaning slot. The dedicated cleaning slot is meant for tape library managed cleaning to ensure that backup applications don't try to load the cleaning tape and for many of the libraries I've had experience with, it will not present the cleaning tape in the dedicated cleaning slot to applications connecting to the library
But really it's based on your preference.
