v6.0 - Backup of vCenter Server SQL database
Hi There,
With v5.0 I was able to backup vCenter Server SQL database VM by doing the following:
- Add the IP-adress of the ESXi host which runs the vCenter Server SQL database to the Veeam console
- Adjust the job and select the virtual machine with the SQL database from the ESX host instead of via the vCenter Server.
- Used a DRS Host Affinity rule to tie the SQL VM to the particular host
- Veeam B&R will then use the host for communication with the VM to do the VSS snapshot.
Performing the same procedure on v6 produces - Error: Not enough licenses. Please contact Veeam Customer Support at support@veeam.com. - when performing the backup. All the hosts are licensed.
Any one out there have this issue?
Regards

Hi, looks like you literally ran out of licensed sockets (and the host you are adding via IP address is treated as a separate host). Thanks!

While all hosts within vcenter are licensed to veeam does it need a separate license when you add one of those hosts separately for backing up 1 vcenter server?
I hope this is not the case

Technically when you add ESX(i) host to the backup console by IP address (to backup vCenter Server VM), this host is treated as a completely new one, so it should require a separate license key, however let me double check that in my labs tomorrow.

Good news, Tristan! The newly added hosts will NOT require additional license key, as we'll match it to the existing, already licensed host in our database automatically.

That's great, and in my opinion a normal way ... so good that's not working on another way!
