Veeam Backup Community Edition taking up licenses for VeeamZip
Case - 03392376
I am using the community edition for 9.5U4 and I am running a Powershell script to call veeamzip to backup a server. On the VBR console, it shows that it is using a license. Veeamzip should have unlimited vms included in the community edition so i am not sure why it is taking up a license. The command I am running is:
Start-VBRZip -Entity $VM -Folder $Directory -Compression $CompressionLevel -DisableQuiesce:(!$EnableQuiescence) -AutoDelete $Retention
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... l?ver=95u4
The license report shows 1 vm instance used and the job name is storage snapshot job. But when I go to home/backups/disks (veeamzip), it shows job name VMnameDate. This shows that VBR is showing that it recognizes it as veeamzip.
Can someone please advise?
Thanks

We are unable to reproduce this issue internally - so, we are checking your debug logs currently.
I will update the topic, once I have more information.
Thanks!

Re: Veeam Backup Community Edition taking up licenses for VeeamZip
Just to put everyone on the same page, this is what the tech just got back to me one:
I got a quicker response than usual from overseas!
They believe this is related to a bug and have provided me with the fix.
To install the Fix
1. Check the current Community Edition Veeam Backup & Replication version. It should be 9.5.4.2615.
2. Make sure no job is running. Stop Veeam services.
3. Take a backup of the original Veeam.Backup.Core.dll (C:\Program Files\Veeam\Backup & Replication\Backup), put it to any safe place.
4. Replace Veeam.Backup.Core.dll with the one from the fix.
5. Start Veeam services back.
Run another VeeamZip
Did it consume an instance?
--------------------------
I responded that it did still consume an instance after running the script.

Sounds good. Kindly please do not share private hot fixes under any circumstances, but especially if they don't help

Re: Veeam Backup Community Edition taking up licenses for VeeamZip
According to the logs, the issue is triggered by backing up with backup jobs first (which consumes the license), then revoking the license and starting to backup the same VM - previously licensed - with VeeamZIP.
We will create a hot fix for this, and also include one in Update 4a.

Thanks for the update. Do you know when Update 4a is coming out?

In about 2 months or so, depending on the support situation.
Meanwhile, the hotfix has been created, and you can request it through your support case (refer to issue ID 160394).
Thanks!

Thanks. I received the hotfix and was able to implement it successfully..
For others reading this in the future, don't forget to delete the license instances before testing your new jobs ("Drop down"\license\instances tab\manage\remove).
