Application aware processing

Post by oscarm »

Hello All,

I am working on a proof of concept to get our workload from VMware to Proxmox. In our VMware setup our Veeam server has no ip access to the customers vms so we use VIX to do the Application Aware Processing. We want to keep this principle in the Proxmox setup to so we do have segregation between the backup servers and the customer vms. I have been testing in our POC, and at first I saw the Veeam server itsself doing the AAP work. I then created a guest interaction proxy, but as far as I have seen this guest interaction proxy needs ip connectivity to the vm that you want to backup with AAP.

Am I right that the only way to get AAP with Proxmox working is to have a Guest Interaction Proxy per customer that wants AAP, or am I missing something?

Hi Oscar,

Yes, the guest interaction proxy must be able to connect to the guest VM. Please see our port list.

Having one guest interaction proxy per customer is also something other service providers do. It can be any managed Windows or Linux machine (Linux guest interaction proxies available since v13). The automatic selection setting will first choose a guest interaction proxy in the same network as the protected VM.

Hi Fabian,

Thanks for confirming this, and good to know Linux servers can be application proxies from 13 too.
