Veeam do not shows nodes of Proxmox VE

Post by Tutek »

Hi,
Veeam 12.3 I'm trying to add, Proxmox VE 9.1.4 with two nodes.
I have created DNS name "pve-cluster1" for proxmox cluster with IP of node1 and node2 (dns round robin), and added this cluster in veeam using that name.
After that I see my cluster but no hosts inside, and only one VM is visible from node1.
On both proxmox server I have the same user and password.

Hello Wojciech,

Using a DNS round‑robin record for a Proxmox cluster is not supported for discovery/management and can lead to inconsistent inventory results (for example, only one node/VM set being visible). Please do the following:
  • Remove the Proxmox entries you previously added in Veeam.
  • Remove the cluster DNS round‑robin record.
  • Clear/refresh DNS caches (on the DNS side and on the Veeam server, if applicable).
  • Add each Proxmox VE node individually, as described in the user guide. The cluster object may appear after adding the first node, but you still need to add all nodes to get complete inventory visibility.
If you run into any additional technical issues, please open a Support Case and share the case number here for reference, so the Support team can assist you further.

OK, I added node1 and node2 separately, but now when creating a backup task from this cluster, the vm machines are under specific hosts, e.g. vm1 is under node1 and vm3 is under node2. What if machine vm1 moves to node2, then my backup will not run because it was selected from node1. Shouldn't there be a view of the cluster itself with all machines, rather than each host?

Hi,

The Node → VM presentation is for UI purposes only. In Veeam Plug‑in for Proxmox VE, the VM is considered part of the cluster rather than bound to a specific node.

Every 15 minutes, the plug‑in rescans the cluster and checks where the VM is currently located.
If your migration frequency is more than 15 minutes, then everything will work as expected.

Otherwise, you can trigger a manual rescan, as described in the User Guide.
