Hi All,

I have a question regarding this we have a few host with Rocky Linux with Ovirt those servers are a dev environment, I wanted to know if it's possible to use Veeam agentless, I see now is RHEL supported but I don't know if it can work with Alma Linux or Rocky Linux.

But of course, wait for final official supported systems

Small follow-up question while we're talking about RHEL-flavors: what about Oracle Linux and OLVM? Haven't had the chance yet to install & test it myself, but a statement that it should work and perhaps even on a best-effort support basis would be awesome for an upcoming backup roadmap

for the foreseeable future, only Red Hat / RHEV will be officially supported. Red Hat is currently updating their APIs regularly. We don't know how long it takes for before the improvements end up in the other "compatible" distributions.

Thank you very much for the update Hannes. Only thing I can say is that Oracle is pushing hard with OLVM, licensing-wise, so we're seeing those workloads migrating away from vSphere to OLVM. OLVM + RMAN plug-in would be a great fit for those Oracle workloads. Not critical sure, but a good argument when comparing backup products.

Seems that they're lagging behind with oVirt 4.3.10 though and might be focusing on stability rather than going for more recent versions of oVirt.

yeah, Oracle and their licensing... I also have customers that have a Hyper-V cluster because of that...

For Oracle, I would also go with RMAN + agent for the files. To me it makes little sense to back up the whole VM if the databases are backed up with RMAN.

Has Veeam looked at expanding out to other forms of KVM (i.e. Oracle Linux KVM for example, witch is based on ovirt similar to RH KVM.)

and welcome to the forums. I merged your question into an existing thread with the same question.

Please see above. Stable change block tracking is key. For non-productive environments you can use it in compatible distributions without support. For other scenarios, there are Veeam agents available.

please see above... OLVM probably works, but would be unsupported for Veeam Backup for RHEV.

"best" for most people means that it must be "supported". So agents would be the way to go in that case.
