Cannot report on missing VM Tags

Post by bozard »

I've tried unsuccessfully to create reports to find VMs missing tags they should have.
I use the Custom Infrastructure report template.

I scope the Infrastructure objects: Cluster.
I target Object type: vSphere Virtual Machine
Columns: Name, Business View: Category, Business View: Group
Specify Custom Filter: Business View: Category - Contains - Membership Association

I get a nice report showing all the VMs with Category Membership Association and the Business View: Group they are in.

But, in reverse, if I want to see VMs missing the Business View: Category Membership Association, I just get every VM with all their other tags.

Any help would be appreciated.

Currently running VeeamOne 12.2

Hello Brandon,

I'm not sure I understand the question correctly but will try to answer.

There are:
VM tags - a property of a Virtual machine object
The Business View (BV for short) group - logically organized by (tag property) value VMs
The BV Category - container object for groups

Having that, VM would not have "Category Membership Association", if there is no tag assigned and this VM does not fit to BV group logic.

So if your goal is to find Virtual Machines without tags they should have. It is possible to use, for example, in the report in a custom filter expression "Not Equals" statement.
It could be also applicable to play with a custom BV group using equals/does not equal operator and work directly with that custom group instead.
