Is their anyway to enhance backup reporting?

Post by joshima »

Hello,

I am currently trying to improve the creation of reports for the veeam backup, as these are audit relevant and the auditors want more information. Are there any official methods from veeam to improve reporting? I have tried the veeam api but have had no success so far. What ideas would you have, if possible?

Many thanks and best regards

Hello Joshima

Our monitoring product Veeam One provides enhanced backup reporting.
Have you checked out the reports of Veeam One?

I've found in the past that auditors are generally satisfied if you send evidence of the history if they are just looking to see if your jobs are successful etc.

Hey Fabian,

As I see it, there are 2 versions: the free version and the paid version. I think the paid version is booked in addition to the existing subscription or? Otherwise the backup reporting could be improved with the help of powersehll (VBR)?

@joshima have they said what exactly needs to be improved?

It may well be worth deploying the free version to see if that meets your needs rather than going down the Powershell route.

There are product bundles where Veeam One is included. I recommend to reach out to our sales or a Veeam reseller to discuss the right licensing for Veeam One. But as a general overview:
- Community Edition is limited to 10 instances and comes with product limitations.
- The paid version is bundled with our Veeam Data Platform Advanced or Data Platform Platinum offering. Veeam One is also included in Veeam Data Platform Essentials, which is our solution for small business with up to 50 workloads to protect.
- There should be also a socket license available for Veeam One, in case you have a VBR socket license.
Otherwise the backup reporting could be improved with the help of powersehll (VBR)
Yes, but you need to build it yourself. Or research what is possible in our PowerShell sub forum and adjust the scripts for your own requirements. I also recommend to specify exactly what you need to see in an audit report. This will help us guide you in the right direction.

if a backup job has been failed they want to see how we have reacted to failed jobs. information about jobs on certain dates. I think I will go the powershell way.
