[BETA] [HPE] Removed HPE VME plugin and Configuration Backup still isn't working

Post by janschulenburg »

Hi, I know, I should have install the HPE VME plugin since this is a beta. But after removing it I would expect running the Configuration Backup would work again. I removed the HPE VME Essentials server from the Veeam config, uninstalled the HPE VME plugin, so now I would expect a running config? Anybody an idea what to do?

Should I restore a working backup from a few days ago?

Hello.
Have you added HPE VME server to VBR configuration? If so, have you deleted it before uninstalling the plugin?

I deleted the plugin first and then I remembered that I needed to delete the config first. I then installed the plugin once more, deleted the config, and removed the plugin. What I see from the logs is that there's an issue in table ssh_creds and I can see that there are 4 records but I only have 3 defined in Veeam. One of the lines has rootpassword NULL :(

After consulting with Veeam support I deleted the entry without rootpassword and the Configuration Backup ran fine again!

So, lessons learned:
  • don not run a beta in production!
  • Remove the HPE VME config before removing the plugin
  • Have a look at the log, it clearly pointed to the error
  • Wait for version 1.1 :)
