Correct procedure for updating recovery ISO

Post by robnicholsonmalt »

Just about to upgrade my lab to 12.3 and I've always wondered about the correct procedure for updating the recovery ISO. From observing Veeam jobs, it generates the recovery media each time a job is run. However, am I correct in saying that if you upgrade Veeam and immediately generate the recovery ISO, you'll get get the media from the last run, not incorporating possibly any changes due to the upgrade? Specifically, you'll get the old recovery agent in the ISO.

If so, then is the procedure:
  1. Upgrade Veeam B&R
  2. Check/manually upgrade the agents on each protected device
  3. Run the backup job to regenerate recovery media
  4. Re-create the recovery media

Hello Rob,

You need to run the backup job at least once after the upgrade to create a patched version of the Recovery Media from the agent side. Then you can create a new RE image via B&R console and it will be the latest version. The plan sounds right!

I wonder if it would be worth suggesting a message after upgrade reminding admin to refresh their recovery environments? I know that old hands will probably know this. Also, if one tries to generate recovery media and the media/agent is out of date, then another warning?
