export disk content as virtual disk P2V to vmdk

Post by janezk »

Hi,
couldn't find anything related to this.
I have a backup of a physical machine with WIN7x64 that was made with Agent 3.0.2. I exported this machine with VBR v10 with the option »Export disk content as virtual disk« to VMDK file. It makes two .vmdk files, one with configuration and the other with actual data sucessfully. When importing the file to vmware workstation, it states »The file specified is not a virtual disk«.
Is there a problem because the original backup was made with Agent version 3.0.2 maybe? Should it be made with the version 4.0 for proper export in VBR v10? Or am I missing something?

Hello Janez,

Adding disks exported as virtual from backups made with Veeam Agent for Windows (any version) is fully supported. Can you please share a screenshot of the import dialog and the error you got? Thanks!

Hello Janez,

Can you please check if it's possible to add the virtual disk with the data to the vm with the running OS? Cheers!

Hi,

this week I'm out of office, I will try next week and report back the result. In the meantime I did the export with vCenter converter from live machine, and it works ok.
But this is not my preferred way. I would really be happy if this export could be done from Veeam backup, as this is a very useful (and cool) feature. (Like live migration of VMs from one vCenter to the other via Veeam)
