Feature Request: Incremental Resume after backup Window Exceeded

Post by rurouni »

Hi,
I don't know how possible it but here is the thing:
We deployed Veeam Agents on low bandwidth sites. Regularily backup Window is exceed. And we observed All the data backed up during the backup window is lost if not successful at the end of the backup Window.
Then we are stuck forever since everyday the backup will not succed to process all the incremental datas.
But since it's not a backup failure, it s a soft stop after a controlled event, i guess it should be possible to capitalize on the processed data during next backup window, instead of starting all over again.

Some backup tools work this way and allow to catch up the delay.

Hello rurouni,

If i get your request right, you would like backup job to reuse the blocks on the repository (even though the restore point was not created) and upload only new data? Is that correct? Thanks!

Hi Dima,
I'll try to explain.
We have some job failing because of backup window.
it seems we have 100GB data to transfer for backup to succeed. backup fails because it processes only 15 to 70GB, and next backup starts from scratch re-backuping the whole 100Gb.
During backup window it processes some data and a VIB file is present in the repository.
At the end of Backup Window the Vib is preserved and removed when the next backup starts.
I just ask if it is possible to reuse the already transfered data blocks to resume backup instead of restarting a new increment from scratch.

rurouni,

Understood, thanks! It's not possible now, but we have this improvement in plans for the next versions. Cheers!

Any news about this? This is especially useful if you have an RPO.

For example: RPO 24h.

Job starts at 0:00
Backup Windows are from 0-6 and 18-24
Job Starts and fails at 6.
Job is incomplete and failed. RPO is not met.

Instead it should work similar to the backup copy job.

Job starts at 0:00
Backup Windows are from 0-6 and 18-24
Job Starts and starts idling 6.
Job idles until 18.
Job resumes at 18 and completes between 18 and 24.

New job starts at 24.
