How to keep backups für 6 mon or 1 year...GFS?

i have 2 Windows Servers and 1 Hyperserver ( includes 10VM).
is it good to do incremental with weekly synthetic full back on sunday as well as monthly Active full backup on Freitags, Retention policy is 30 Days?

the files are 8,7 TB.

and what if i keep 1 full backup for 1 month but in the secondary target for 6 month or 1 year ?

and welcome to the forum.

"Good" depends on what you need I would harmonize the schedule for the fulls. My brain does not like to calculate mixed fulls on Friday and Sunday.

Yes, the secondary target / backup copy has an independent schedule. So you can have different retention settings for the backup job and for the backup copy job.

so I want to have a weekly full backup and monthly file backup, Retention should be 30 days, also want to keep only monthly full backup for 6 months.
which Konfiguration will be the best?

I have two targets : my idea is:

Saving on backup server ( first Target) > Retention Policy 30 Days, with weekly full back ( Synthetic oder Active should i choose, i want the one which wont take so much storage)

Saving on Secound Target > Retention Policy 30 Days, with monhly full back with keeping it for 6 monthes.

Hello,
synthetic fulls don't consume disk space on REFS and XFS. So that's recommended in general.

I'm not sure I got this right. Are you talking about using the backup copy job (recommended), or do you want to create a second backup job (sounds like a waste of compute & IO resources)?
