HPE verified hardware recommendations for Veeam server, proxy, and Veeam repository.

Post by asharma »

Which ProLiant server is verified by HPE for Veeam backup and replication (backup server, backup proxy)?
Which server is verified for the Veeam backup repository (Windows/Linux)?

We support all hardware in general that follow the protocols that are used. You can use all HPE servers, but I would use good battery backed RAID controllers.

The vendors can test their storages (including servers with local storage) against our software to get on the Veeam Ready list. This is not a classic HCL that limits support, but just a list of servers and storage verified for Veeam.

If you want to use our Hardened Repository ISO instead of installing it yourself, please check this one here:

As well you can find some security centric blueprints here:

Hi

Thanks,
Backup Repository side I am clear. But for the compute side, is there a specific compute server recommended by Veeam or HPE to run Veeam Proxy, Backup Server, and Veeam One?

Ex . DL 360 gen 11, DL325 gen 11, DL 380 gen 10 or 11 or other proliant Server.
Is there any reference document or link avialable then pls provide.

Does not really matter. I would place 2 mirrored SSDs in it for boot and if you have a large environment with thousands of VMs I would place the Veeam database on another server with fast storage backend (SSDs).

Besides this needed CPU and RAM requirements are usually not that big and you can go with any of them.

In general I would go with a model that you are familar with in your organization. Usually customer buy another server of their "bread and butter" server that they use widely. If you never bought an HPE server, then I would check with the partner what they are usually selling.

Maybe other customers can comment here about what they are using.

HPE have provided a reference architecture document for older version of Veeam, but it is still applicable in general.

Basically, a minimal new design (if you don't have existinging HPE infra such as Blade or Synergy) should be:
1. Linux Hardened Repo server - you could use HPE Apollo 4200 Gen10+ with a P816i SAS controller full of disks in RAID60 + at least dual-10GbE NIC
2. VBR server (all-in-one) - depending on needs, you could go with DL360 Gen11, 2xSSD/NVMe for OS, dual-10GbE LOM, expandable in future if you need to connect i.e. tape library over FC or SAS
