in Exchange DAG backup only server with passive DB

Post by rkg »

Hello Again, i have an Exchange 2016 with two servers in DAG, one server in NYC with the Actives DB, the other in Miami with the Passives DB, can i only do a backup of the server in Miami without any issue, regardless not include the NYC server in the Backup job?

i read this KB2463 https://www.veeam.com/blog/windows-2019 ... gent.html and said that we have to include both nodes in the backup job and that the job will copy all EDB files from both nodes, which for sure will kill my bandwidth between NYC and Miami (4TB DB size).

i just want to know if is possible to do the backup job only selecting one server of the DAG, which have the passive DB.

Hello,
I do not see, that the KB entry says "have to". Actually with IP-less DAG requires to treat the servers separately.

yes you can.

Best regards,
Hannes

Yes, backup of only one node holding all passive copies is supported as stated in this KB article: https://www.veeam.com/kb1744 (see last paragraph "More information")
