instant recovery of a win2012 running on xen (Case # 05445774)

Post by tinto1970 »

good day, I'm trying to migrate a win2012 running on xen to a fresh vmware cluster.
The backup with veeam agent succeeds, but when i perform the Instant Recovery I run into this issue: the VM boots only in SafeMode.

I've tried to boot it in safemode, remove all unused devices and uninstall any xen-related application, but the problem was not solved.
Any suggestions to try something new to make it able to boot or a different way to proceed?

(yes I will also try the Vmware converted, but it's deprecated and It's my last resort...)
Thanks in advance

Hello Alessandro

Thanks for the case number.
Please give our support time to answer the case. It was created only minutes ago.
Some questions from my side:
- Are you trying to restore the domain controller?
- Do you have activated Guest application aware processing for the Agent backup?
- Does the machine boot, if you use the recovery media to restore the Agent backup?

sorry, i did not want to push, just to share my problem in case it could help someone in the future ;-)

It is not a Domain controller
application aware is active
I will try to boot with the recovery media, thanks!

booting from the recovery media had the same result: the machine starts in "recovery mode" and I can boot it in SafeMode, but normal boot is not possible

Thanks for testing that out. Probably something wrong with the drivers.
Do you get a BSOD?

Would be a good test, if vmware converter gives you the same behaviour. Just to check if veeam is the issue or the source VM.
