Mobile User backup direct to VDC Vault

Hi All,

We have plenty of mobile laptop users (some travel oversea frequently) and will not in office. We wanted to backup direct to Veeam Data Cloud Vault from these user laptops (no VPN, only Internet connection).

But we need clarification that will the "Direct connection" setting option in object storage works in this use case for Veeam Data Cloud Vault as target repository? The user guide mention - Direct connection - With this connection mode, Veeam Agents access object storage directly. Backup data is sent from Veeam Agent computer to the object storage.

If "Direct connection" option is not possible for Veeam Data Cloud Vault, then with "Connection through a gateway server" is the only option, how can we design and setup this? How can these mobile user connects to the VBR\Gateway server during backup to Veeam Vault? Please advise.

Veeam Agent > VBR\Gateway > Veeam Data Cloud Vault

Alright, for backup jobs managed by Veeam Agent, you cannot back up data to the Veeam Data Cloud Vault storage added in the direct connection mode.

Now "Connection through a gateway server" is the only option. We have some question; hope can really get some help here:

1. Can we deploy the VBR\Gateway in the DMZ zone with public IP, leverage it as the gateway server?
2. How can we group all these mobile users' laptop into a protect group, and install the VAW on all of them?
3. Any security concern with this approach?
4. Any concern or issue during restore?

The traffic flow during backup will be VAW > VBR\Gateway > Veeam Data Cloud Vault, correct me if it's wrong.
