Hi Quy,

Standalone Create Recovery Media wizard has use for Standalone Veeam Agent and installed alongside with it.
If those are managed by VBR, you will find Create Recovery Media as an option for managed agent under Inventory or straight from the backup.

/Cheers!

Hi Egor - I may be missing a concept on this. If i do do not see the create recovery media as an option, does that mean that I don't have the right VBR license?- i'm running community edition.
or does it mean that I am missing some full backup?

Hi Sidney

The license doesn‘t matter.
It must be a veeam agent for windows backup and stored in a veeam backup repository.

Thanks

Sydney,

You can create recovery media from Veeam B&R console for any backup that contains operating system backup. It's not a standalone recovery media creation wizard as for Veeam Agent for Windows installation, thus you cannot see this option in the Start menu.

Hi Fabian i appreciate your response. I have read that statement as well elsewhere but do not understand what it means.
Does this mean i have to install the veeam agent for windows on the actual server and then ? how do i get it in the backup repository - i'm missing something here?
All i have is Veeam Backup and Replication Community (Free) version - i have nothing installed on the physical server.. i run daily backups. Am i able to create recovery iso somehow with the above details?
Also case number I have opened is 05551367

Hi DIma, i do not see that option in my B&R console - Is that a feature for the paid only version? So does that mean that Veeam recovery media cannot be created using free Veeam B&R community version? - i could not find anything stating such.. I have opened a case with Veeam 05551367
BTW - I do know how to create recovery media by installing the agent directly on the server.. But what I was looking to understand is if there is a way to do the same using B&R community/free version?

That should be enough. Can you please clarify if you've created/included the operating system volume to the backup? Recovery media in B&R is created from the backup, so it's required to have a full run plus operating system volume included.

It's available in every version, included community edition.

You can test it pretty easily with community edition. Create a backup job for one particular server and take entire computer backup. Once done - check the backup job log, there should be a line saying that recovery media components were collected. If everything is done - open Inventory node and navigate to the protection group with that machine. Right click it and select create recovery media from the context menu.

thank you for the quick reply Dima,
I chose backup - virtual computer, and left the default all disks.
Perhaps the recovery media option is available when you choose backup - Windows computer? may be that is my mistake?
If using backup - virtual computer - may be i do not need recovery media? as it does snapshots? - sorry for all these noob questions

Virtual machines do not require the recovery media.
The recovery media is only available for Veeam Agent Backups.

A VM Backup can be restored directly as a vm:

Sydney,

For sure with Virtual Machines you should stick with VM backup jobs due to more efficient backup jobs designed to work tight with the hypervisor. Agent-based backup is the one you need to use for physical machines or when it's not possible to add hypervisor to Veeam B&R console. Thank you!
