Protection Group credential 'Test Now' fails

Post by jardinec »

I'm working with B&R server 11a and until a few nights ago everything was normal. Then the protection group scan started failing. It started right after I deleted a decommissioned machine from the group. In troubleshooting I did the 'Test Now' for the credentials for the protection group. It has an error that says 'Building the hosts list Error: The server is not operational' There are similar errors when I try to manually rescan. The backups are still functioning, but the rescan fails. I've checked and all the services I can see are functioning on the B&R server. I'm now at a loss as to what to check next.

Hello,
I would recommend opening a support ticket, so our Support Engineers can debug the problem quickly with the logs.

Besides that, on the protection group you have a small checkbox that says to avoid offline servers, maybe try that, but definitely open a ticket and share the case here if possible, thanks!

I was given a ticket/case number of 05426786. Since this instance is a rental agreement my supplier entered the ticket.

This is now fixed.

What I didn't remember/realize is that when you set the domain for an Active Directory protection group you have to specify a domain controller to bind to. I thought is would have used DNS or something like that to determine what the domain controllers are. Editing the properties of the protection group and using 'Change' for the domain brings up a dialog with the name of the DC/LDAP server to bind to. It turns out that I had just decommissioned the previously configured DC.

Thank you for let us know! It is always DNS, or SSL.

Jokes aside, this is very valuable feedback, and I am sure if might happen in the future to somebody, so we have something quick to check.

Appreciated it.
