Question about data transfer route

Post by Bizaro »

Hello everyone, help me figure it out

We have several locations let`s call them 1,2,3,4. At each location, there is a backup proxy and network storage. For each storage in settings, it is indicated to use a backup proxy, which is located in the same location. The Veeam main console is installed on location 1.

When creating a task that will be managed by the server, by backing up files on the server located in location 2 to the storage, which is also located in location 2.
While back upping and \ or restoring data, data will be transferred from the source server (location 2) through the backup proxy server (location 2) to the network storage (location 2)?

Or will the data be transferred from the source server (location 2) through the server with the Veeam console (location 1) through the backup proxy server (location 2) to the network storage (location 2)?

Hi Artem,

Is that a VM backup, Agent or File Share backup?

For example, in the case with VMs the data transfer is handled by the proxy server chosen in the job configuration and the data mover component residing on the target repository, both of them act as data movers delivering the backup traffic. Please refer here and there for additional information on the backup proxies.

Thanks

Thank you for your reply.
Job is Windows agent backup, managed by the server.

At the moment such tasks are configured through agents, and they are also managed by agents. But I would like them to be managed by the server, If this does not create too much extra traffic

Backup proxy is not involved in the Agent backup process. In the case with Agents, the source data mover resides at the target machine being backed up. The target data mover runs on the gateway server (in the case with NAS) or target repository itself, depending on the target type.

Regardless of the job mode (whether it's managed by the backup server or agent), the backup traffic goes straight from the source machine to the target data mover.

Thanks.

Just check your NAS configuration settings. There is a gateway server assigned for data processing. The data mover component resides on that gateway server.
