Reduce retention policy from 14 days to 7 days

Post by eldonlck »

Dear all,

I have changed a backup jobs retention policy from 14 days to 7 days with GFS: 2 Weekly. The job will runs 12am every night.

if the job is run successfully next time, will the job's backup size and its restore points be reduced?

Hello,
and welcome to the forums.

Short answer: probably yes :-)
Why "probably": If the backup chain is longer than the 7 + whatever number of days is needed to satisfy the 7 days, then yes. Remember that dependent backups must be retained until not needed anymore. See animation of forward incremental with periodic fulls (needed for your GFS)

Best regards,
Hannes
