Retention policy not respected

Post by houdem »

Hi,

Perhaps I am missing something here, I did set the retention policy to 1 day only because I want a full backup everyday on a single file. However since I run the backup there are many recovery points available.

Here's the retention settings:

And here are the recovery points:

So basically I should have only 1 recovery point for each of the machines I am backing up but that isn`t the case.

Maybe I am doing it all wrong.

I am sure, you have configured weekly synthetic full. It‘s the default setting.
If yes, veeam cannot remove old restore points because they are needed in the active chain each day. Until a new chain is created on the next saturday, the chain will not be deleted.

@mildur:
You were right about the synthetic full, I made the modifications and will see how it goes from there, thanks!

@Gostev:
Sorry, I haven`t paid attention, will do next time. Thanks.

Happy to help.
You should see the removal of the restore points the next time the backup is running.
