Second Physical DC as Proxy

Post by mhoude »

Hi,

I am running Hyper-V where have a vm which is my primary DC (well I know there is no more PDC or BDC now but just for the record let assume this).

I also have 3 physical servers which I use for my backup purposes, 1 VBR, 1 Proxy and 1 tape backup which does have the HP tape backup plugged into.

I was wondering if I could just promote the proxy server to a DC so if the vm goes down I will have a backup DC running just in case.

Do you see a problem with this or it`s a big no and if so why ?

Thanks in advance.

Per this guide it is not recommended:
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=110

Coexistence with Mission-Critical Production Servers:
It is not recommended that you install Veeam Backup & Replication and its components on mission-critical machines in the production environment such as VMware vCenter Server, Domain Controller, Microsoft Exchange Server, Small Business Server/ Windows Server Essentials and so on. If possible, install Veeam Backup & Replication and its components on dedicated machines. Backup infrastructure component roles can be co-installed.

For which job types do you use the physical proxy?
Hyper-V proxies are deployed on the Hyper-V host itself, so in your case is this proxy used at all?
