Still No Support for Windows 11 with VBR

Post by johnzapf »

Do you know when you will add the new support for windows 11 agent to VBR. I have been looking everyday for a month now. I hope soon.

Thanks, John

Hi John

Veeams commitment is to support a new OS version within 90 days after GA date, if no issue is found in the testing of the release version. For windows 11, the GA date was 5th october.

Sometimes it doesn‘t take to long to support a new version, sometimes it take longer because of unforeseen issues which are needed to be addressed (from both side, veeam and microsoft).

Hello,
instead of looking every day, I recommend waiting for the weekly forum digest :-)

We finished testing with the latest version (5.0.1.4584) of the agent. Everything works and documentation will be updated soon.

Best regards,
Hannes

John,

It's safe to use Veeam Agent for Windows v5.0.1 or Veeam B&R v11a to protect Windows 11 workloads. There might be some UI glitches where operating system version is not being recognize properly (say, backup proprieties or recovery media details) but that's simply a UI label which will be corrected in the following patch or update. Backup and restore functionality works without any issues. Thank you!

When veeam officials say, it supported, then it is.
Must be some environment issue or you don‘t have installed the correct version.

VBR V11a or Veeam Agent 5.0.1

If it still not works, you can open a support case. Veeam can help you to find the cause of this issue.

As it is officially supported, any way to stop the warning emails that state "Microsoft Windows version installed on this machine is not officially supported by Veeam yet"?

You should not be getting them with VBR 11a and Agent 5.0.1 so check if you upgraded everything and open a support case.

The biggest problem for me is VBR will not install the Agents on new Windows 11 workstations.

So I think I know why its not installing the agents.

When I try to access any of the windows workstation drives via \\NAME\c$ it doesn't work on any of the Windows 11 Workstations, I cant figure why or how to fix that. I am sure if I can fix that, then I bet the agent will at least install.

Any ideas?

Disabling RemoteUAC, it the Workstations are not in a Active Directory is normally needed.

Code: Select all

1) Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

2. Create a DWORD value named LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy and set it to 1.

Disabling RemoteUAC is a security risk at least when using Active Directory (not 100% for workgroup deployments). It's only needed for some situations with workgroups (without active directory) deployments. But that was the same with Windows 10 and earlier versions.

The "Microsoft Windows version installed on this machine is not officially supported by Veeam yet" is just a warning / UI issue. Clicking on "install agent" works fine if the pre-requisites are there. Only the automatic rescan fails.

As an alternative, Protection groups with pre-installed agents are an option: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=110

I know, it's a security risk. But Workgroup deployments needs disabling the RemoteUAC to work, if the configured credential inside of veeam is not "administrator". https://www.veeam.com/kb4185
If the Windows server being added to Veeam Backup & Replication is not joined to a domain, or there is a need to avoid using a domain account, the built-in account named Administrator must be used to add the server to Veeam Backup & Replication. Other local accounts will be restricted by UAC, even if they are members of the Administrators group.

Note: If the Administrator account has been renamed, it can be used as the unique SID that bypasses Remote UAC Restrictions is still valid.

Let me check that, I thought I already had that set in the GPO

Ok, User Access Control is off, set in the GPO. and that still didn't fix it. This must be a windows 11 thing. all works on windows 10 andhas workedon 10 without making these changes in the Domain before. I didn't have to make this change to UAC an now that I have still can get it to work on Windows 11, \\NAME\c$ doesn't work and agents don't install.

its one of the settings in Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings

I turned them all on and now all works, yes I still get the error message but thats ok for now.

SO I don't know what change in the Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings? in windows 11 I guess more security. but I turned all to on and that fixed all.

I ask support about Windows 11 UI glitches today
but Support reply me
Windows 11 is not a supported OS for Veeam Agent 5.0.1 as per our User Guide's System Requirements:
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/agent ... tml?ver=50

Windows 11 OS will be supported in our upcoming releases, but we do not have yet a time of release.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
So I check that URL and found that Microsoft Windows 11 (version 21H2) already listed in OS Requirement
And "Windows 11 is officially supported with 11a" line also add in kb4215 https://www.veeam.com/kb4215

Case # 05145883

Hello,
and welcome to the forums.

Well, support engineers are also humans... and humans make mistakes from time to time ;-)

I see that you already told the engineer and he asked for logs (logfiles are almost always required)

From Antons Newsletter about this:
This is a cosmetic issue you can just ignore for now – we will address it in one of the upcoming cumulative patches (likely not the first, as this one is ready and should be signed off by QC any day now).
