Storage snapshot for database backups

Hi, is it possible to use storage snapshot integration (storage snapshots) for a physical server with local disks for the OS and a (Oracle) database on a FC SAN connected disk? (Only for the database of course and with supported SAN storage). Any tricks or caveats? Will it be possible to put a retention on the storage snapshot? Thanks!
