Truncate Exchange logs using volume or file backup

I am trying to backup physical Exchange server.
Is it possible to truncate log when using volume or file backup.
I have testet it, but it does not Work.

Hi,

It is possible only if all disks that contain the Microsoft Exchange database are included in a volume-level backup job.

You can do it via Veeam B&R console in the following way:

1. go to backup job settings;
2. open guest processing tab;
3. enable applications-aware processing;
4. open application-aware processing settings;
5. Select and edit backup object;
6. at the Processing settings in General tab you should enable "Process transaction logs with this job".

But it all works when backing up the Entire Computer, but not Volume level backup and File level backup. When testing Volume and File level backup, the log says that it truncate logs, but it is not.

The Volumes is mounted in an NTFS folder, but that should not be a problem?

So it's impossible to truncate the logs for specific databases. i.e. it's all or nothing?

That is correct. And we cannot control this process since truncation is handled by Microsoft Exchange (as opposed to Veeam) in response to backup server notifying Microsoft VSS Framework that the backup was successful. Thanks!
