Update USB Boot Disk After Upgrade?

Post by tthomas1@ebsco.com »

It just occurred to me that we might need to update our USB boot disks (created with Veeam B&R) after installing a Veeam B&R upgrade. Can someone tell me if that is required, recommended, or not necessary?

Hello Tim,

Are you referring to Veeam Recovery Media (bootable image for Bare Metal Recovery)? Thanks!

Hi Dima,

Yes that is the feature! We have implemented this on several physical servers at some of our smaller remote offices. We've asked the on-site admins to leave the USB stick in place on the server so we could use it immediately in the event of a disaster. I'm wondering if we need to update/change them at all when we upgrade Veeam B&R to a new release.

As a rule of thumb updating is required, because Veeam Recovery Media created older product version will not be able to "understand" newer backup files versions. Thanks!
