VAW notifications when managed by 9.5u3
Trying out managing VAW using B&R 9.5u3 and it works fine except for configuring notifications. When VAW is configured using B&R, the option to configure email notifications is grayed out and I don't see a way to configure it with B&R 9.5u3. How do I get email notifications to be sent out for each VAW when it's managed using B&R?

Hi Eric,
Not sure that there is a way to send out emails for each VAW user, however you can configure it either on per job level or per global policy settings. As a workaround you can ask every user specify their own email address in the VAC UI settings when creating a new alarm.
How many Agents do you manage today? Are there any group admins managing different locations/departments/offices?
Thanks!

Re: VAW notifications when managed by 9.5u3
We send all the email notifications for all our clients to Backup Radar which is a service that parses the emails and reports on any failures with a backup. The global emails are working for the VM's but the agent backup status is never sent. I see the setting to configure per job notifications for VM backups in B&R. I just don't see a way to configure that for an agent in B&R.
I want to manage the VAW in VAC but I can't get the backups to work when configured through VAC and have an open support case(02648909) to figure out why it's not working.
We are currently only managing 10-15 agents across all our clients but hopefully that number will be going in the next few months when we can transition away from other backup software to VAW.

Got it! Let me check with our support team on the error message you see in VAC. As regards, the email notifications, then if you parse them via Backup Radar anyway, then these per job settings should do the job, right?

Re: VAW notifications when managed by 9.5u3
Now I know why I wasn't seeing the settings to manage notifications. If the mode is "Managed by agent" you aren't given the option to configure the notification settings which is how I have the job configured. If I create a new agent backup job and select "Managed by backup server" I can configure the notifications.
It looks like the notifications settings can't be configured from B&R or VAW if "Managed by agent" mode is used. Is this a bug?

Re: VAW notifications when managed by 9.5u3
Good that we've figured this out! Per job email notifications are indeed available for jobs managed by the backup server only. This is not a bug, but rather a "by design" behavior, because if you manage job by the backup server, then you specify SMTP settings in the backup server. And all notifications just work
If you manage everything by the backup agent, then agent itself is responsible for sending email notifications, including configuring SMTP server. These settings are not configured when you run job managed by the agent. Hope that clarifies the difference.
Also I've just discussed your VAC issue with out Tier 3 support engineer, he is more than willing to help as soon as your current support engineer conducts a WebEx session and gathers all the logs.

This make sense except for one thing. Why would the settings screen be grayed out in VAW when "Managed by agent" mode is used?

Re: VAW notifications when managed by 9.5u3
Do you mean that they are grayed out in the VAW UI? Maybe this is done to prevent anyone from changing any config that was assigned by the backup administrator, though I agree that SMTP settings should be possible to override/configure.
Let's wait till our engineers resolve your VAC case, so you could use email notifications over there.
