Veeam Agent Pre- & Post-Job Script Timeout Settings

Post by WeeamUser1138 »

Having studied and searched the latest available documentation, for anything related to controlling pre- and post-job script timeout values, I have come up empty handed.
Googling for above information has produced the below results, but implementing any or all of them have not resulted in control of the timeout value(s).
Both Veeam B&R and the VAL machine have been rebooted while testing this, to rule out the new settings not taking effect.

Gostev writing on Nov 25 2014 in the Veeam B&R forum about v8:
Default timeouts of 900 seconds (15 minutes) is customizable for both pre- and post-job scripts via the following registry values:
PreJobScriptTimeoutSec (DWORD)
PostJobScriptTimeoutSec (DWORD)

foggy writing on Aug 7 2018 in the Veeam B&R forum about unknown version of B&R:
MaxGuestScriptTimeoutSec
Type: REG_DWORD
Default value: 600
Description: Timeout for pre-freeze and post-thaw scripts, in seconds.

In the same thread, jtremblay writes on Jun 25 2021 about unknown version of VAL:
edit /etc/veeam/veeam.ini and find the following lines:
[scripts]
...
# Timeout for pre- and post-backup scripts, sec
# timeoutPrePost = 600

I'm running a single instance of VAL v6 with the job controlled by Veeam B&R v12.
Looking to control the pre-job timeout specifically.

Hello

Our backup jobs for managed linux agents allow you to run three different type of scripts:

- Job Level Scripts on backup server will run at the beginning of a backup job and at the end of a backup job.
The script will run on the backup server for Linux backup jobs "managed by backup server".

- Job Level Scripts on Veeam Agent machine will run at the beginning of a backup job and at the end of a backup job.
The script will run on the machine with the Veeam Agent.

- Guest Level scripts will run before the guest OS freezes it's filesystem/applications (snapshot) and after the guest os released the snapshot.
The script will run inside the Guest OS for Veeam Agent for Linux Server.

Where do you want to run the pre-job script? On your Linux Server or on the backup server?
Do you have "managed by agent" or "managed by Server" backup jobs for the VAL?

Agreed. My description might be a little to vague in regards to the script type.
But it's on the Veeam Agent machine.

As stated in the 2nd to last line of the OP:
I'm running a single instance of VAL v6 with the job controlled by Veeam B&R v12.

Thanks.

Thanks.
I checked in our internal documentation. The following configuration is still valid for VAL 6.0 and pre- and post-backup scripts:

/etc/veeam/veeam.ini

Code: Select all

# Timeout for pre- and post-backup scripts, sec
timeoutPrePost = 600
Can you confirm that you have used exact this configuration? The number can be another one.

Looking at "/etc/veeam/veeam.ini" again, it dawned on me that every and all of the settings are commented.
Guess it's why I didn't "see" all the hashtags.
After uncommenting and and restarting the veeamservice it works as intended.
Thanks for your help and apologies for the inconvenience.
