This is on a Windows Server 2019 , a HP Proliant DL385 Gen 10. The OS drive is primarily program folders, and the Windows directory. All data files and pertinent information is stored on another drive. I am using version 12.2 of the community edition of VEEAM.
I have been preforming a Volume level backup, then selecting the OS volume to create a backup of the OS drive. Now that I need to restore the OS, I realize that this is in the Veeam Backup Metadata format. From our existing backups I can restore any folder, including the Windows directory. Unfortunately with the Windows directory, any file in use get skipped (preventing a complete restore). I also tried this by booting into the VEEAM restore USB device and that method tells me that it will not work with the Veeam Backup Metadata format.
Is there a way for me to take the existing VEEAM OS backups (in the Metadata format) to restore our OS drive?
Your guidance would be greatly appreciated !
Dennis

Re: Veeam Backup Metadata format used to restore os volume?
Hello Dennis,
Can you please elaborate as 'Metadata format' is not clear. Are you referring to vbm (veeam backup metadata file)? This file describes the backup but does not contain any data associated with your machines, you must have vbk or vib files present for successful restore. Thank you!

Re: Veeam Backup Metadata format used to restore os volume?
I realized that I am trying to restore the OS with the wrong backup format. After searching, I do have the .VBK file. When I preformed the “Entire Computer” backup procedure, that file format of .VBK is used. I have two copies of this stored on an external drive, for offsite. I should be able to do a full restore from that backup.
