Veeam Free Limitation for bare metal servers
Hi,
We are using about 15 on-premise servers with no vms and we want to use the free version of Veeam.
I know there is a 10 virtual machines limit on the free version but what about individual on-premise machines ?
Thanks in advance.

With the community edition, you have 10 instances to use. If you want to have the Agents managed by VBR.
1 physical Server = 1 Instance
3 physical Worksttion = 1 Instance
If you install and configure the agent manually on each of the physical machines, and backup the data directly to a usb disk or NAS, I don‘t see a limitation.
The 10 instance limitation is only for managed Agents by a VBR server.
The free edition cannot be used to offer services for a customer. Is this a customer environment, then your customer needs to buy licenses

If you backup your own production environment, then yes.

Re: Veeam Free Limitation for bare metal servers
Hi Michel.
Although you can use free edition, I would strongly advise to check your IT budget for the smallest Veeam Backup Essentials bundle option.
- Having a paid VUL license unlocks Enterprise Plus feature set
- You don't want to leave production workloads with free-tier "best effort" support policy, especially for business critical solutions like backup and recovery

One thing you cannot do is have multiple Community Edition installs in the same production environment... otherwise, no restrictions for production usage.

Re: Veeam Free Limitation for bare metal servers
So for 12 servers I would need to buy 3 packs of Veeam Backup Essentials @ 80$ each right ?

3x Veeam Backup Essentials VUL (5er Package)
There are no single licenses. You have to buy them in 5er packages. A 5er package has a price around 400 dollar.
See the license configurator for a price:

Re: Veeam Free Limitation for bare metal servers
Actually, 10 instances is enough to cover 12 servers, since you can quite officially exceed paid licenses by up to 5.
This is in place so that you're not forced to buy more instances than you actually need, due to them sold in packs.
Veeam Backup Essentials is sold in 5 instance packs, so you need 2 packs at $400 per pack = $800.
