VSS Snapshot Creation Taking Over 35 Hours...

Post by Backup_Guy »

Case: 04601323

Hello,
I have tired a few times to get some traction on this issue. So far the issue was resolved by doing the following:

1) Stop the jobs in the backup window
2) Restart the Veeam services on the problem client.
3) Now what doesn't work and the server has to be restarted.
4) The VSS writers are showing as being in a good state.

If anybody has had any luck with this that would be great.

Kevin
Thanks for looking!

Hi Kevin.

I see your server's Microsoft VSS services are faulting quite often based on ticket history.
Our product relies on VSS, and we just give OS a native command to perform a VSS snapshot of specified volume, waiting for reply from system and proceed with backup afterwards.
It would be of great help if you could perform a manual VSS Snapshot test outside our product, using this KB guide. If it doesn't work manually, no wonder Veeam is stuck waiting for VSS - it shall be troubleshooted with Microsoft specialists instead.

There are tons of potential VSS issue sources - converted machines(P2V?), faulting VSS Writers, existence of previous backup software "leftovers" like custom VSS Providers left in the system, bad configurations with VSS snapshot redirection \ enforced size limits etc...

/Thanks!
