Solution for making a backup to a remote location on an RDX drive. - idea needed.

Post by kmiernik »

Hi.

I have an idea for a backup of the production environment, but I lack the possibility of making one element.

the environment looks like this.
Site 1
vmware esx production + Veeam Enterprise + repository
no human access
Site 2
vmware esx + repository + windows server as repository with RDX
easy access for people

There is not the fastest link between locations. Full backup takes more than 48 hours.

Site 2 is to be replicated from Site 1 to ESX
For this replication, there will be a backup repository for seeding the first replica.

I would like to use an existing full backup made once and supplemented with incremental copies and to make full backups to RDX.
Do you have any idea how to configure it to make backup on rotating drive from a backup? I looking and it's not possible but maybe I don't know everything.

I know We can backup whole repository server on RDX but but it looks like a makeshift

Hi kmiernik

Welcome to the forum.

RDX drives needs to be configured as rotated disk --> https://www.veeam.com/kb4048
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=110
A backup copy job will be able to copy backups from your backup job to the RDX drive.
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=110

Backup Copy from Backup Copy works in V11 with a workaround --> Follow this steps
This method will not be available after an upgrade to V12. There was a change in the backup copy jobs design which removed this possibility. We will reintroduce it in a future version of VBR.

Thanks
