Amazon AWS, how to attach tapes do virtual drive?

Hi there,

I'm trying to test backup to AWS VTL, I've got the appliance installed, the virtual tape drives attached to the server using iscsi, drivers modified to standard LTO for teh 10 drives I added and the driver for the changer updated to sony drive. Anyway, it seems all fine, medias have been created in amazon, but they never apear as available media in Veeam. I've tried to refresh the tape infra structure on my Veeam server but the drives are showing as empty. I've looked everywhere an amazon says the tapes should be available to my backup software once I have them created and available on my AWS console. It is quite frustrating, there is no guide in amazon explaining how these tapes are attached to these virtual drives, I've no idea what tape goes where and how I can control this.

Can anyone assist me please?

Should need be, the import process can be automated. Just use the following one-liner:

Import-VBRTapeMedium -Library (Get-VBRTapeLibrary -Name "Name of tape library")

I was wondering, when you select export tape, it goes offline, but then I can't find any way of bringing that tape back online. I was thinking it could have been market as archived or something similar by the tape drive and then in AWS I would find the tape not available. Strangely, the tape is available in AWS but the options there are very limited, so I believe on AWS side there is not much that can be done in this aspect.

Is there anything I can do on Veeam to bring this tape back online? I tried every button I could find so far

Typically, if you've just exported a medium, you can return it back by right-clicking on library and selecting "Import Tapes" option.

Unfortunately, I don't happen to have Amazon AWS VTL at hand, so can't test how it works in conjunction with that solution.

I tried the import option, but still displays as offline.

All of the 10 tapes are green displaying as available. Would Veeam trigger something on AWS to archive the tape or anything similar with teh export function?

No, I was just thinking it was archived from the VTL console to VTS. Import is used to load the tapes into the library and Inventory – to recognize the tapes inside the slots. Could you check if running the inventory helps?
