Any advantage to encrypting both tape and job?

Post by McKITGuys »

Hi all,

Is there any real advantage to encrypting both backup jobs (or copy jobs) and the tape jobs as well? The manual says it is double-encrypted if doing so.

Keep in mind that we have two IT guys in our company - we would just be using the same password stored in the password manager for both levels of encryption.

Thanks.

Hello,
I see zero advantage (as the user guide states... double encryption...)

Best regards,

Thanks. I suppose if tapes were super-high security, you could put 2 password keys on them and two different people have a password each - kinda like the 2 keys needed to launch a missile :-) Not really needed for this customer - just want to protect the jobs if tapes got lost or someone got to the VBR machine.
