Hello everyone.
I am just starting out in the world of backups. I would like to ask for some guidance.
I have Veeam B&R 11 with a local disk repository, and on the other side I have a HP 1x8 G2 AUTOLDR 4.0 tape library.
I currently backup virtual machines and physical Windows servers every day incrementally and on Saturdays I do a full synthetic backup with a retention policy of 7 retention points. All this to my local disk repository.
My goal is to have these same backups on tape. And at the same time have the rewrite cycle of the tapes be monthly so that I can have up to a month old backup to tape and keep the age of the backup to disk at one week.
Is this configuration possible and is it recommended?
I really don't know what the best strategy is.
Thank you very much for your help.
Best regards.
Gabriel

Re: Ask for some guidance on tape backups
Hello,
and welcome to the forums.
The plan sounds good
Retention settings for the "one month" are in the media pool settings.
Best regards,
Hannes

In addition, don't forget to export and remove the tapes regulary according to your RPO.
Only offline and securely stored tapes give you sufficient protection against certain disasters.

Re: Ask for some guidance on tape backups
Possible and easy to implement. I do weekly to tape, but monthly would be fine too.
