Bare metal restore from tape possible ?

Post by mhoude »

Hi,

I do have several .vbk and .vib files on LTO-7 tapes for DR purposes, I do not rely on this in particular as I have several other repositories that I use but let just say that our building collapse and the only thing left is the tape. Will I be able to do a bare metal restore with the files stored on the tapes or am I backing them up for nothing ?

Thanks in advance.

You need to copy back the backup files to the backup repo, before you can use them todo a bare metal recovery of an Agent Backup.

Ok so if the backup repo is unavailable, can I just copy the files elsewhere and restore from that location ?

Thanks

Yes, that's possible.
You need a VBR Server to export the backup files. To a USB Disk or a Shared Folder.
After that, you can start your machine with the recovery ISO to restore the agent backup.

If it's for a VM, and you have configured Backup To Tape Jobs, you can directly restore a VM back to the hypervisor.
