Copy from Exagrid to Tape

Post by aschalk »

Hey guys,

I want to make sure if my backup scheme, I want to set up, will work.

Currently I plan to copy backups to tape once per quarter.

The Repository is lying on an Exagrid 40000E.
We did not decide on any particular Tape Library at this point.

I want to create a primary Job that will do daily backups with 7 days retention time. No synthetic full.
After this a copy job with GFS should create 4 weekly backups, 3 monthly backups and 1 quarterly backup.

Is it possible to copy this quarterly backup to tape?

Cheers!

Hi aschalk,

This design should work.

Before purchase you can test you approach with Virtual Tape Library solution (emulation of a real tape library).
Is it possible to copy this quarterly backup to tape?
You can either create a tape GFS job (and configure quarterly media set) or use simple backup to tape job configured to pick only full backups.

I want to create a primary Job that will do daily backups with 7 days retention time. No synthetic full.
Create a backup job.
Disable both synthetic and active full backups.
Set 7 as number of restore points to keep.
After this a copy job with GFS should create 4 weekly backups, 3 monthly backups and 1 quarterly backup.
Create a GFS media pool.
Set 4 as weekly overwrite protection period.
Set 3 as monthly overwrite protection period.
Set 1 as quarterly overwrite protection period.
Set 0 as yearly overwrite protection period.

Create a backup to tape job.
Point it to the GFS media pool.
Set whatever schedule you want for it.
