Creating tape jobs of full backups only
Hi all,
Just wondering if this is possible to do without additional disk based storage expense.
B&R backups to hardened Linux immutable backup server currently with 95 days retention period, then full (ie end of Q1, Q2 ..) with only that full being written to tape without any additional storage for the backup to tape job.
Is this possible?
Thank You

Gostev,
I read your R&D forums digest every week and am thus honored to have you reply!
I do, however need to get this done for the end of the month for my customer.
Should I just open a support case? I thought that posting here would be the best option and I have spent quite a lot of time looking through posts on tape jobs.
Thank You

Re: Creating tape jobs of full backups only
You are absolutely correct, for these types of questions forum is better than support.
@Dima P. could you suggest the best way to trigger virtual full to tape on the last day of the quarter? I don't believe our UI provides "Last day of quarter" setting, only "Last %DayOfWeek% of quarter" is available... seems like something that makes sense to add for tape users btw. But perhaps it is possible with PowerShell? Or trick the B2T job into it by not actually starting it [with a script] until the last day of the quarter?

Re: Creating tape jobs of full backups only
Hi Jack,
True, for backup to tape jobs aimed at regular media pools quarterly schedule is not available.
I'd recommend using backup to tape jobs aimed at GFS media pool with quarterly media set enabled. In such case you can define the schedule for quarterly backup and tape out the needed full at the day of the week/day of the quarter schedule.

Thanks Dima!
I asked our tech writers to make these options visible in our documentation too, and it's already live:
