Re: direct backup to tape
Hello Massimiliano,
Veeam has Veeam Universal License for a long time which includes all features at the Enterprise Plus level. In the case that you still have some Sockets Standard somewhere, if I recall okay, Enterprise and Ent+ would offer you encryption at rest on tape; backups to tape are only Ent and Ent+.
There is not an option to do VMs, Agents, or NAS Backup to tape. You can only do Files to Tape, or Backups to Tape (meaning Backups that have landed in a repository first) Some more info here.
In future releases we will have NAS to Tape as well, but again, nothing planned for VMs, or Agents direct to Tape.
Thanks!

Re: direct backup to tape
therefore it is not currently possible to make a direct backup on tape, but only the copy of files present on a repository.
so it's not even a backup copy ....
But with the standard version (socket) it seems to me that it has some partial functionality to be able to backup to tape

Hello,
Full comparison with your sockets edition, which I am not sure if is Standard or Ent/Ent+ - https://www.veeam.com/veeam_backup_one_ ... son_ds.pdf
Yes, you can not do a direct backup to tape, just Files to Tape, or Backups to Tape, and in the future NAS to Tape.

Re: direct backup to tape
Hi Massimiliano,
Just add from Jorge said, I have experience backup to tape using standard license:
- Regardless enterprise or standard, You cannot backup directly to tape using veeam you need have Disk Repository, and then can duplicate / archive backup to tape.
- Yes standard license only can support file to tape job, we need upgrade to enterprise license Backup to Tape jobs, with this capability you can automate / linking backup job to tape job for duplication purpose
Thanks

Re: direct backup to tape
so if I understood correctly with the standard version it is not possible to do a copy job but only files on tape, instead with the enterprise version it is also possible to do a copy job on tape.

Re: direct backup to tape
I have a standard socket license and I would like to backup my aix servers to repository via agent and make a copy on tape.
having the standard I can not do a copy job but select the folder (file to tape) of the backup chain and copy it to tape.
so when i have to restore from cassette what steps should i do?

Re: direct backup to tape
Hi massimiliano,
Firstly You need restore data file from tape to Disk / Filesystem, then perform import backup from VBR console.
After importing backup finished you can continue perform restore to AIX.
