Disadvantages of Reverse Incrmental

Post by tfloor »

Hi,

If your backup window is big enough, and the situation is:

Daily backup to disk then export to tape.
Montly extra backup to seperate export tape

Are there disadvantages of choosing reverse above forward incrementals?

The only disadvantage I can come up with is that with reversed method each time a new full backup will be copied to a tape media. If you’re ok with or if it’s exactly what you’re trying to achieve, I don’t see anything that might prevent you from using reversed incremental mode. Thanks.

Thanks.
I will create some testjobs with reversed incrementals.

As mentioned, please be aware that each time the whole .vbk will be transferred to tape media. Also, no .vrb files will be processed by a tape job (as per User Guide, p.439). Thanks.
