Discrepancy in tape job emails

Post by nathano »

Probably been happening for a while but I've just noticed an issue with tape job email subjects.

Email subject sent to the email address listed on the tape job seems fine
"[Success] Tape Mon-Thu (4 Tapes)"

the email subject of the email that's sent to the address listed under the main VBR general options email settings
"[Success] Tape Mon-Thu (6 machines)"

Those two email subjects are for the same job, there are 6 backup jobs going to tape not 6 machines.

Case 04322833 has been logged.

Hello Nathan,

Thanks for the feedback! I am afraid that's not an a bug but the old by design that needs to be improved: per-job notifications settings use it's own configuration values while global notification settings know noting about per-job ones, as a result they work completely independent from each other. We plan to slightly tune this behavior in the upcoming versions. Cheers!

Hi Nathan,

Also worth checking File - General Options - Email Settings. If you are up to date(that is on build 10.0.1.4854 and didn't alter "Subject:" field manually, it should be set by default to:

Code: Select all

[%JobResult%] %JobName% (%ObjectCount% objects) %Issues%
that way it will refer to "6 objects" as Backup Jobs processed by Tape Job.

/Cheers!

Mine was set to "[%JobResult%] %JobName% (%VmCount% machines) %Issues%"

I have changed it to what you have stated.

Thanks

something not right with that.. this is the subject I got through for a storage snapshot job (servername redacted). It didn't interpret the objects codes

[Success] xxxxxx (SS) (%ObjectsCount% objects)

Hi Nathan,

Interesting.
- Which build are you running?
- Was it a fresh installation or upgrade from previous versions?

/Thanks!

Gosh, this one is on me! I must have been playing around Email Notifications and copy-pasted email subject field from a wrong session.
Correct code is %ObjectCount% without "s"! Sorry!

p.s. edited code above to be correct.
/Cheers!
