Does GFS tape job need a GFS job on disk to work?

Just Wondering if GFS tape job needs to have GFS backup files written to disk (via a GFS copy job that writes to Disk) so that it can copy those GFS restore points to Disk or can it use a normal 7 day retention backup job written to disk and make GFS retention points and write thm in to tape?

short answer: no, there is no such requirement

Otherwise it would not even be possible to write normal backup jobs to tape with GFS
