Error when using WORM LTO-7 Cartridge [MT]SCSI PASS THROUGH DIRECT
Hi folks,
we want to do our yearly Tape Backup, but we are not able to use WORM Media anymore:
[MT]SCSI PASS THROUGH DIRECT ended with Scsi Error Fixed format, current; Sense key: Illegal Request. Additional sense: Invalid field in parameter list[MT]SCSI PASS THROUGH DIRECT ended with Scsi Error Fixed format, current; Sense key: Illegal Request. Additional sense: Invalid field in parameter list
Error: [MT]SCSI PASS THROUGH DIRECT ended with Scsi Error Fixed format, current; Sense key: Illegal Request. Additional sense: Invalid field in parameter list
Checked everything and read in the KB now i need a special WORM Media Pool. -> Created it, same error.
Encryption in Media Pool is not enabled. Tapes have a blue cartridge Icon, hence i think veeam knows these are WORMs
Installed Hotfix: https://www.veeam.com/kb2981 same error
Using standard LTO-7 Tapes, works without any issues.
Last year same time, we successfully used WORM Media, seems there is an issue with the current version? Using 9.5.4.2866 with Hotfix KB2981
Any help would be appreciated.

Case # 03969369
Firmware Version K4K1 from our IBM ULTRIUM-HH7 Drive seems causing issues here.
We will downgrade and lets see what happens.

According to our information, the bug with WORM tapes confirmed in the following FW: JAYK & K4K5 (LTO8), K4K1 (LTO7), JAX1 (Half Height LTO-6 drives). The temporary fix is to downgrade the drive firmware. IBM is planning to fix the bug in future versions.

But downgrade is usually not supported.
Nevertheless there is a new firmware available now since 01/28/2009 - KAH1 which fixes the problem for us

Hello Peter,
That was the official recommendation from IBM folks, so you are good to go. They've mentioned that fix is in progress, so I'd recommend to raise a ticket with IBM support in order to get it. Cheers!

Thanks.

good question, i think i downloaded it from the ibm support portal.
or check the site of your tape vendor, they should usually offer it too.

emiguy,
It looks like the tape drive firmware is available only via support portal, at least I did not find any public download recourses from IBM. Cheers!
