Export to tape increments Weekly

Post by DavidL86 »

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to export a Full + Increments weekly on tape.
My backup to disk are configured in Forever Incremental with 31 days of retention.

When the job runs weekly, veeam exports a Full but takes all 31 .vib if I configure Incremental on Job.
Is that a way to only export A full + 6 increments ? Maybe with copy job ?

Thanks for your help

regards

David

Hello David,

During the fist tape job run all the backup files are processed, so when you enable incremental backup to tape the entire backup chain is going to be written to tape. May I ask what retention are you going to use for your tape backups? Thank you.

Hi Dima,
Thanks for taking the time to help me
Retention for weekly tape backup will be 1 month, then we will export to tape the full month + Increments for archive purpose with no retention

So, basically you have 31 restore points (1 full + 30 increments) and want archive and export increments created within week, correct?

Be aware that with forward forever increment mode a backup to tape job will create a weekly virtual full backup - so, each week you will have 6 increments plus 1 virtual full backup on tapes.

Thanks!

Hi,

so, each week you will have 6 increments plus 1 virtual full backup on tapes.
Exactly what I'm looking for, but it seems that the weekly takes all the increments available

Thanks!

Are you positive that:

- You're running machine backup to tape job (not file backup to tape one)?
- You have virtual full backup configured?

Thanks!

Then, you need to switch to machine backup to tape job to make the described scenario work. Thanks!

If it's backup to tape job and virtual full is configured for it, then, the described situation looks unexpected. Reach our support team and let them confirm your setup. Thanks!
